Andrew R. Graybil is professor of history and Director of the William P. Clements Center for Southwest Studies at Southern Methodist University. He is the author or editor of four books, including Policing the Great Plains: Rangers, Mounties, and the North American Frontier, 1875-1910 and Civil War Wests: Testing the Limits of the United States (co-edited with Adam Arenson). He has written reviews for The American Scholar, The New York Times Book Review, Texas Monthly, and The Wall Street Journal, among other publications, and is currently at work on a narrative history of the Great Plains.
